War In Ukraine
Since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24th, 2022, myself and my colleagues around the world have openly condemned this invasion by Vladimir Putin's regime. It is a murderous act against the Ukrainian people, and it will send societies throughout the post-Soviet space into economic, social, and political ruin. The scale and the complexity of the ramifications of this decision will be difficult for us to track. To assist, I encourage using the Ukraine Events Calendar, maintained by the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies to find events that are relevant to your interests and available for your schedule.
Below is a recording of my lecture at Idaho State University, given on March 2, 2022, which gives a background to the war. Hopefully it will give an understanding of trends relevant to the onset of the invasion, which will hopefully prepare any curious observer to appreciate the expertise of colleagues as they present more nuanced perspectives on this war and its implications.
The video below is a recording of a second lecture at Idaho State University, given on April 26, 2022, in which my colleague, Dr. Malliga Och, and I provide an overview of responses to the invasion of Ukraine. Dr. Och discusses the effects within the European Union, and I cover more of the domestic political ramifications of the war in the Russian case.
